Skybox Datacenters and Prologis plan to construct a 600-megawatt campus offering up to 4 million sq ft of data center space near Austin, Texas. The project will increase momentum for the development of data centers in Austin, which has grown into an ideal location for tech companies. The Skybox PowerCampus Austin will be located in Hutto, approximately 25 miles north of Downtown Austin, and is anticipated to begin delivering capacity in 2024. The project will be located right next to the north of Skybox Austin I, a 30-megawatt (MW) data center facility in Pflugerville that will go live later this year. The PowerCampus Austin development agreement was ratified by the Hutto City Council last week Thursday. Skybox and Prologis view Austin as a destination for hyperscale data facilities and cloud platforms based on the scope of this endeavor. The site is adjacent to a 345 kV transmission corridor and will feature two private 300 megawatt dedicated substations, which makes it one of the United States' most scalable data center campuses.
PowerCampus Austin, according to Rob Morris, CEO of Skybox Datacenters, will mark the beginning of a new era of hyperscale development. This one-of-a-kind asset and location provide unprecedented access to power and a predictable growth path. He stressed that they look forward to doing their part to facilitate the development of the next generation of vital infrastructure in a deliberate and sustainable manner. Morris added that Skybox is eager to collaborate with Prologis on this new venture and to expand upon their momentum in Central Texas. The partnership, known as Skybox, Powered by Prologis, began with the opening of a data center in suburban Chicago.
