City Council took action to move the development process along almost a year after it was revealed that Dallas-based Skybox Datacenters and its San Francisco-based partner Prologis Inc. bought more than 220 acres in Hutto. At a meeting on June 15, officials granted preliminary approval to annex approximately 224 acres of the Hutto Megasite, a nearly 1,400-acre tract of land on Highway 79 designated for industrial development.

Members of the City Council also authorized the zoning of the property for light industrial use at the same meeting, along with a municipal service agreement to provide services such as water, wastewater, and waste disposal. Ashley Bailey, director of development services for Hutto, stated that the second and final authorization to annex the land into the city would likely occur at the next regularly scheduled meeting in late June.

Skybox and Prologis intend to construct a data center campus on the site, but specifics regarding economic development between the companies and Hutto have not yet been determined.
