Scala Data Centers is constructing a new campus just outside Mexico City, Mexico. This week, the company owned by DigitalBridge announced intentions to build SMEXTP01, its first data center in the country. The facility, located in the municipality of Tepotzotlán, will have an initial critical capacity of 5 MW and cover 142,130 square feet.
Scala's new site is anticipated to go live in the fourth quarter of 2023 and is already anchored by a "large hyperscale client." The company has stated that it will invest $80 million in the initiative.
Since its establishment in 2020, the company has invested approximately $1.6 billion in hyperscale data centers in Brazil, Chile, Mexico, and Colombia. In the next five years, the corporation anticipates its data center portfolio to reach 500MW. Scala opened data centers in Curauma, Chile, as well as So Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2023.
The company reported that it has ongoing construction projects in Porto Alegre city (Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil), Tamboré Campus (So Paulo, Brazil), and Lampa (Chile), as well as advanced projects to implement data centers in Mexico, Fortaleza (Ceará state, Brazil), and Colombia.
