Scala's new data center in Rio de Janeiro for Scala Data Center is now operational. The Brazilian data center has a 7.2MW hyperscale capacity and only one anchor tenant at the moment. The So Joo do Meriti campus, where the SGIGSM01 facility is situated, will have 55MW of IT capacity when fully developed. It was constructed utilizing Modular Data Centers' manufactured modular structures and Scala's "FastDeploy," a proprietary design and construction methodology. The company claims that by starting construction in August 2022 and finishing it in April 2023, it was able to deploy "in record time."
In September 2022, the SGIGSM01 was first introduced along with the introduction of FastDeploy. With a combined capacity of 50MW, Scala currently operates five data centers throughout Brazil. The company has five additional facilities scheduled for completion in 2023, three of which will be located on the Tambore campus in So Paulo, one in Jundiai, and one in Campinas. In 2020, Digital Colony (now DigitalBridge) established the business. Scala Data Centers has since grown throughout Latin America. A 1.6GW power purchase agreement (PPA) for the company's data centers in Chile, Peru, and Columbia was signed with Enel Americas the following month. The company was granted permission to construct a $400 million campus with a 120MW capacity in Chile in October 2022.
