Real estate developer S+B Gruppe has secured approval to build a 12MW Tier III data center in northern Bucharest, Romania. Named NIMB, the facility has received a building permit and grid connection approval. It will provide 36,597 sq ft (3,400 sqm) of white space and is expected to open in 2028.
S+B Gruppe says NIMB will be Bucharest’s first purpose-built data center, although another operator has made a similar claim. The facility will target cloud providers, hyperscalers, technology companies, and financial institutions, with access to international connectivity through major carriers in Romania. Founded in Vienna in 1986, S+B Gruppe manages more than 414,000 sqm across Central and Eastern Europe, with €8.1 billion in total investments. NIMB will be its first data center project in Romania.
Bucharest’s data center market is becoming increasingly competitive, with at least 31 existing facilities. New projects include DriverAI’s planned 80MW facility in Cluj and Sany International’s 70MW data center in Timișoara. Belgian developer Warehouses De Pauw has also expressed interest in Romania’s data center market, with reports linking it to two potential projects in Ilfov County near Bucharest.
