MTS Group: Russia's MTS Holds Off Selling its Tower Asset Due To War

Russia’s MTS announced in November 2021 that it is mulling over the sale of its tower assets. Besides, there was a belief that it was close to reaching an agreement at the beginning of the year. However, it has postponed the sale plans indefinitely. The postponement was caused by potential acquirers deciding to hand off the deal due to the collapse of the country’s currency and sanctions. MTS currently owns up to 23,000 towers.
MTS noted that it would continue analyzing multiple scenarios. Investment firm Kismet Capital and tower company Service-Telecom were interested in acquiring the towers. Service-Telecom said the current macroeconomic conditions surrounding MTS are why it is not moving forward with the deal. Although MTS isn’t sanctioned by Europe or the US, sanctions on Russia have affected the company’s business.
