MTS has announced that it is setting up a new data center unit (subsidiary). The Russian telco also revealed that it would develop four new facilities over the next 24 months. It also looks to develop up to 15 data centers across Russia under the new subsidiary. The new subsidiary will be called MTS Web Services, and it will be in charge of developing data centers and offering cloud services. The first VP for MTS, Inessa Galaktionova, noted that the company would need to buy land and bring capacity to the sites for the planned 15 data centers.
Galaktionova further revealed that the developments would cost the company up to 6 billion rubles ($91.5m). MTS currently has twelve data centers in its portfolio. It has two data centers in Nizhny Novgorod, four in Moscow, and one each in Krasnodar, Novosibirsk, Samara, Vladivostok, the Leningrad region, and the wider Moscow region.
