Malaysian data center developer Privasia is planning a 10MW facility in the northwestern peninsular state of Perak. The company has signed a RM569 million ($144 million) contract with the Malaysian subsidiary of China’s Inspur Cloud Information to design, procure, construct, and commission the data center in Bagan Datuk, in southern Perak.
Privasia said the first phase of the data center, known as Silverstreams, is targeted for completion by the end of next year, bringing capacity to 10MW, according to Bernama. The outlet also reported that a second phase could expand the facility’s capacity, though further details have yet to be announced.
According to Privasia’s website, the facility will span three stories and offer up to 25MW of capacity across a 49-acre site. Privasia is an IT provider, telecommunications company, and consultancy, and the Silverstreams project appears to mark its first move into the data center sector.
Inspur Group is a Chinese technology conglomerate best known for its server manufacturing business. The company was added to the US Entity List in March 2023, effectively restricting American firms from doing business with it. Most of Malaysia’s data center capacity is concentrated in the Klang Valley—home to the capital, Kuala Lumpur—and in the city of Johor Bahru.
