NextDC Launches Data Center Near Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Australian data center operator NextDC has launched KL1, its first international data center, near Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The facility is located in Seksyen 51a in Petaling Jaya, west of Kuala Lumpur.

The facility is expected to deliver 65MW of capacity once fully completed, though NextDC has not disclosed how much capacity is currently operational.A promotional video on the company’s website says the data center will be developed in five phases, with the first phase providing 15MW of capacity. According to NextDC, the facility will include 18,250 sqm (196,441 sq ft) of technical space.

NextDC said the facility represents an investment of AUD$1 billion ($716 million).Last June, the company increased its debt financing to AUD$5.1 billion ($3.7 billion) to support its ongoing data center expansion plans.In addition to its Malaysian operations in Kuala Lumpur and Johor, NextDC is also planning or evaluating sites in Tokyo, Bangkok, and Singapore.
