Equinix is Building its Fourth Data Center in Malaysia

Equinix will build its fourth data center in Malaysia, KL2, in Kuala Lumpur. The US$190 million facility will house over 2,200 cabinets at full build-out, though its size and IT capacity were not disclosed. Equinix said the new data center will be located less than 1 km from its KL1 facility in Cyberjaya, a planned tech hub south of Kuala Lumpur that hosts several science and technology infrastructures.

The land for the facility was acquired in July 2024 and spans 14,300 sqm (153,924 sq ft), with Equinix paying about RM23 million (US$5.8 million) for the site. The data center will support AI and high-performance computing workloads and will use liquid cooling technology.

Equinix operates three other data centers in Malaysia—JH1, JH2, and KL1—located across Johor and Cyberjaya. JH2 is an expansion of JH1, which was announced in 2022 and went live in 2024. JH2 was topped out in 2025, with its first phase expected to launch in Q1 2027, adding 7MW of IT capacity. The wider campus could potentially scale up to 77MW if additional land acquisitions proceed.
