The municipal council of Valencia has abandoned plans to construct a data center in a port docks building. More than a year had passed since the local government began considering multiple proposals for establishing a data center in a building on the Marina de Valencia. Nevertheless, this week the Local Government Board (JGL) authorized the withdrawal of the Docks award process after learning that reports from the State Advocacy and the Port Authority of Valencia "are unfavorable," as stated in a statement from the City Hall.
The previous municipal government had nearly concluded the bidding process, according to Councilor José Mar Olano, but he could not complete it without a minimum accord with the Port Authority of Valencia. The request for expressions of interest in developing the site has been rescinded.
The existing two-story structure on the site was constructed in 1917. According to reports, it has been vacant since 2016, when the previous nightclub tenant was evicted for failing to comply with various council requirements. During the intervening years, proposals have included a five-star hotel with a casino and the site for the CaixaForum arts center.
Nethits, Sineasen, and Nixva, were competing to develop a data center on the site.
