Valencia Digital Port Connect (VDPC), a Spanish telecoms infrastructure company, has selected the municipality of Sagunto as the landing site for the submarine cable and a multi-purpose data center that will offer up to 10MW.

VDPC is developing the Barracuda submarine cable project in collaboration with private equity firm Teset Capital. Linking Genoa and Valencia, the 1,060 km, 12-fiber pair cable will offer 32 Tbps per fiber pair. It will include branching units for potential route expansion.

“The Barracuda project will strengthen the region’s digital infrastructure, boost the local economy, and provide high-speed connectivity to businesses and institutions,” said Enrique Martín Gullón, CEO of Valencia Digital Port Connect. “We are responding to a world increasingly driven by data, and we are confident that this project will have a positive impact on the economic recovery of the Valencian community following the effects of the recent storms.”

“Through this strategic investment, Teset Capital reaffirms its commitment to developing cutting-edge and sustainable telecommunications infrastructure,” said José Arango, partner at Teset Capital. “At a time when cloud services, artificial intelligence, and the expansion of 5G networks are driving an increasing demand for high-speed, low-latency data transmission, this project is more relevant than ever.”
