Eight Form has withdrawn its proposal to replace a Hyatt Place hotel in El Segundo, California, with a data center. The plan involved demolishing the hotel at 750 N. Nash Street to build a five-story, 230,780 sq ft (21,440 sqm) facility with 50MW of capacity.
Eight Form withdrew the proposal following strong opposition from local residents, who raised concerns over noise, water and electricity use, and the site’s suitability for a data center. During the July 9 planning commission meeting, managing partner Arjun Shokeen announced the withdrawal of the application, receiving applause from attendees.
“I’ve heard the community loud and clear. They’ve made their voice very present here, and my intention isn’t to put anybody through any mental or physical harm, and I just want to save everybody the rest of the night. We’re going to be withdrawing the application. We’re not going to be moving forward with the data center,” said Shokeen.
