Microsoft has expanded its presence in Hong Kong by launching new availability zones in its East Asia Azure cloud region in Hong Kong. Most Microsoft Azure regions tend to launch with three availability zones. These zones or locations are unique and physically separated to provide higher redundancy, availability, and disaster recovery protection. Yet, some Azure regions launch with single zones with more added later.

Earlier this week, Microsoft said Availability Zones give users more options for high availability for their most demanding services and applications. The availability regions also help instill more confidence and protection from potential software and hardware failures by making three or more unique physical locations available within an Azure region.
