Meta has announced that it is expanding its Mesa data center campus in Arizona. The company announced in a Facebook post that: “In August 2021, we were thrilled to add Mesa, Arizona, to our family of data centers. Just nine months later, we’re excited to announce that we are expanding the Meta Mesa Data Center campus with three new buildings, reaching more than 2.5 million square feet.

The company first started work on the Mesa data center campus in August last year. The first phase of the development had two buildings spanning 90,000 square meters (970,000 square meters). The $800 million data center campus’s first building is expected to be completed in 2023, while the entire project will be completed in 2026.

According to the announcement, Meta’s investment in Arizona will pass the $1 billion mark. Meta will also be powering the facility with 450MW of new solar energy in Arizona. Meta’s community development manager, David Williams, noted that Mesa had been a great location and home for the company. He said this is due to its superb infrastructure, access to green energy resources, a fantastic pool of talent, and great community partners.
