Meta has announced that it is expanding its Huntsville facility in Alabama. The company revealed that it is adding two new buildings to the data center to allow the data center buildings to span 3.5 million square feet of space. According to Meta, its investment in the facility will exceed $1.5 billion after the expansion is completed. Furthermore, the company noted that it forecasts that the facility will support over 300 operational jobs when the expansion is completed.
Meta (Facebook) started work at the data center in 2018, officially opening in September last year. The data center was initially slated to span 970,000 square feet (90,116 square meters). However, the company revealed last year that it would be adding more buildings to the facility to expand it to 2.5m sq ft. This expansion is scheduled to be completed in 2024.
