Meta has announced that it will expand its Sarpy data center in Sarpy County, Nebraska, once again, with the introduction of a new building which will make it a nine-building, four million-square-foot (371,600 sqm) campus that will be fuelled with renewable energy sourced by wind farm projects in northeast Nebraska and Kansas. The expansion will be at around 1 million sqft, and will reportedly add approximately 100 full-time jobs to the local area.

In a statement about the expansion, Facebook’s Matt Sexton, commented: “There are actually over three billion people who rely on these services every single month. Millions of small businesses connect with customers and it’s through data centers like these that we can provide a safe, secure and reliable way for folks to communicate all across the world.”

He added: “These really are huge economic drivers and great projects to have in your city, county and your state. For us to be in a position to expand to eight buildings after an initial two building announcement four years ago is just such an incredible thing to be a part of.”

The project, which first began in 2017, is expected to be complete by the end of 2024.
