Google has been identified as the company behind the 2.7GW Project Tembo data center campus, formerly known as Project Jade, near Cheyenne, Wyoming. The 716-acre campus in Switchgrass Industrial Park will include four data halls, along with office, logistics, and network buildings. Construction is expected to be completed by 2031.

The project was previously being developed by Crusoe as the 1.8GW Project Jade campus, with plans to scale to 10GW. However, Crusoe paused work in June at the request of its customer. According to Cowboy State Daily, Google's subsidiary, Jupiter Star Holdings, has since taken over development of the campus. The reason for the change has not been disclosed.

Tallgrass Energy said it continues to develop a bring-your-own-power generation hub for the campus, while Google's plans also include power supplied by local utility Black Hills Energy. Cheyenne is an established data center market, with major developments from Microsoft, Meta, and Related Digital, which is building a $1.2 billion campus for CoreWeave.GettyImages-1163973538.width-358.jpg
