Wyoming Approves Prometheus Hyperscale’s Gigawatt Data Center Campus

Prometheus Hyperscale has secured planning approval for its flagship Wyoming data center campus near Evanston. The Uinta County Board of Commissioners unanimously granted a conditional use permit for the 506-acre site. The project is expected to deliver an initial 1.25GW capacity, with plans to expand up to 5GW. Construction could begin within six months of final permitting, with the first phase of the 1.25GW buildout expected to take 48 to 60 months.

"This unanimous approval reflects the strength of the project's fundamentals and the depth of community engagement we've built in Uinta County," said Trevor Neilson, president of Prometheus Hyperscal

Prometheus Hyperscale, formerly Wyoming Hyperscale Whitebox, was relaunched in 2024 after originally planning a 120MW site in 2020. The project recently gained a recommendation for approval from Uinta County’s planning commission. The Evanston campus will run as an islanded microgrid powered by on-site natural gas generation, which the company says avoids grid interconnection delays and related regulatory risks.

Prometheus Hyperscale is also developing the 1.25GW Falls Ranch project near Casper, Wyoming, with Casper Carbon Capture, as well as a site in Dallas, Texas, alongside Engie. The company has previously targeted projects in Pueblo and Fort Morgan, Colorado, and in Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona, though their current status is unclear. Prometheus is backed by In-Q-Tel (IQT), the venture arm funded by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency.Prometheus_Hyperscale.width-358.webp
