Google has been named the sole end user and operator of the 8 million sq ft (743,224 sqm) Columbia County Data Center development in Georgia. The company was confirmed as the customer during an announcement by the county’s Economic Development Authority on 23 July. Located northwest of White Oak Business Park, the project will include 23 data centre buildings across 1,900 acres, according to site plans published on the project website.
“This is one of the most significant investments in our county’s history,” said Doug Duncan, chairman of the Columbia County Board of Commissioners. “Growth like this strengthens the commercial tax base that funds our schools, roads and public safety, and over time it reduces how heavily those services rely on residential property owners.”
Duncan also joined President Donald Trump in Washington, D.C., to promote the project during an event focused on expanding the Ratepayer Protection Pledge, a voluntary initiative aimed at limiting utility bill increases linked to data centre growth. The project has faced controversy since April 2025, when Trammell Crow Company, a CBRE subsidiary, submitted a Development of Regional Impact application. Columbia County is located northwest of Augusta, near Georgia’s border with South Carolina.
