GDS Holdings has announced that it has started work on a data center campus in Malaysia. The company revealed that it would invest RM1.38 billion in developing the 242,200 square feet (22,500 square meters) at the Nusajaya Tech Park in Johor. The hyperscale data center campus will deliver 54MW of capacity upon full build-out. However, GDS plans to deliver the first 18MW phase in 2024.
The head of the Johor State committee for consumer affairs, trade, and investment, Lee Ting Han, said it was amazing to be present at the groundbreaking ceremony of the campus. He noted that the committee sees the development as proof that Johor is a top domestic and international investment location. Han further commented that this is only possible due to the state’s business-friendly environment.
The 210-acre Nusajaya Tech Park is already home to important customers like Telekom Malaysia, Stern-Wywiol Gruppe, and UK defense firm GKN Aerospace. The park will provide nine million square feet (836,100 square meters) of business space upon full build-out.
