A new data center campus for GDS has opened in Malaysia's Johor. This week, the company announced the grand inauguration of its data center campus at Nusajaya Tech Park (NTP). Phase 1 of the campus (consisting of Nusajaya 1, 2, and 3, or NTP1, 2, and 3) offers 242,200 square feet of net floor space and 69.5 megawatts.
GDS, established in 2006, maintains multiple data centers in Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Chengdu, and Hong Kong. In addition to expanding into Malaysia last year, the corporation acquired land in Indonesia for future development.
In July 2021, GDS acquired land in the NTP, and construction on the site began in April 2022. The company stated at the time that it intended to construct a 242,200-square-foot, 54-megawatt campus, with the first 18-megawatt phase of development anticipated to go live in 2024.
When completed, the 210-hectare Nusajaya Tech Park in the Iskandar Puteri district of Johor will offer 9 million square feet of commercial space. Current clients include the manufacturer Dai-ichi Seiko Group, the British defense company GKN Aerospace, Telekom Malaysia, and the Stern-Wywiol Group.
