GDS has announced its plan to develop multiple data centers in YTL’s data center campus in Johor, Malaysia. GDS Holdings and YTL Power International Berhad signed an agreement to co-build eight data centers at the YTL Green Data Center Park. The data centers developed will have a capacity of 168MW. YTLS Green Data Center Park is still undeveloped, but the companies revealed that the development’s first phase will be in service by 2024.

YTL first announced its plans for a 500MW data center campus earlier in April. The facility is to be developed on 275-acres of land. The proposed site is also next to up to 1,500 acres of land that will house a solar farm to power the enormous facility. YTL Power’s Managing Director, Dato’ Yeoh Seok Hong, said the company is delighted to be working with GDS to anchor its state-of-the-art green data center campus in Johor, Malaysia. He noted that the companies share the same vision for a sustainable/green energy-powered data center with dark fiber capacity. Seok Hong further added that the facility would be the dream location for colocation customers and hyperscalers.

The CEO of GDS, William Huang, could not hide his excitement about the project. He noted that partnering with a fantastic group like YTL is an amazing opportunity. Huang said the project is visionary as it combines renewable energy with hyperscale capacity.
