Firstcolo Breaks Ground on New Data Center in Rosbach vor der Höhe, Germany

Firstcolo has started construction of FRA7, a 24MW data center in Rosbach vor der Höhe, near Frankfurt, Germany. The facility will span 11,555 sqm (124,360 sq ft) and support cloud, AI, and high-performance computing workloads. The €250 million ($290 million) project is scheduled to open in early 2027.

"Breaking ground on FRA7 is one of the most significant moments in my career — and it comes at a critical time,” Firstcolo’s founder and CEO, Jerome Evans, told DCD, citing international pressure on Germany to use AI to make its industrial base more resilient and competitive. “FRA7,” Evans added, “is the first step in a €1 billion ($1.15bn) investment offensive to make Firstcolo one of Germany's largest colocation providers.”

Rosbach vor der Höhe was chosen for Firstcolo’s FRA7 data center due to faster access to grid connections compared to nearby Frankfurt, according to founder Jerome Evans. The facility will be powered by renewable energy, employ around 25 staff initially, and provide waste heat to the local community free of charge for 20 years. Founded in 2006, Firstcolo employs over 80 people across the DACH region, with the project marking its expansion beyond Frankfurt’s highly concentrated data center market.

Firstcolo currently operates two Tier III data centers in Frankfurt: the 1,200 sqm (12,915 sq ft) “Werkhaus” facility with around 1,000 racks, and the “AOC Data Center,” which has capacity for 390 racks. In May, the company received the German Datacenter Talents & Impact Award 2025 from the German Data Center Association for its focus on sustainable design.firstcolo-FRA7-Spatenstich-breaking-ground-web.width-358.jpg
