EdgeConneX is developing a new data center in Elk Grove, Illinois. It has also been granted property tax breaks for the facility. The Elk Grove Village officials met last week and endorsed a proposed Cook County property tax for the company. EdgeConneX plans to develop a 22MW data center on the land it acquired. EdgeConneX applied for Cook County Class 6B property tax exemption for some of its lands at 2055 Lunt Avenue, 1700 Nicholas Boulevard, 2139-2145 Lunt Avenue, and 2101-2105 Lunt Avenue.
When the 6B status is granted, the property owner has the tax assessment on the property lowered for a 12-year period. According to reports, EdgeConneX plans to demolish the properties on Lunt Avenue. It also plans to develop a new 15,500 square meters (167,000 square feet), 22MW two-story data center building on the site. The company is expected to break ground on the site in Q2 or Q3 of this year. EdgeConneX also plans to invest up to $210 million in developing the facility. The facility is scheduled to come online in December 2023.
