Cook County property records show EdgeConnex is expanding to Chicago.
A young data-center company is cooking up its first deal in the Chicago area, paying nearly $23 million for an Elk Grove Village warehouse that it plans to retrofit for the internet era.
EdgeConnex acquired the 132,000-square-foot building at 1800 Nicholas Blvd. from Prologis, a San Francisco-based real estate investment trust.
The firm is expanding here amid a booming data-center market fueled by the growing use of cloud computing. With consumers and businesses using their phones and computers to pull up everything from spreadsheets to Spotify—whenever they want and wherever they want it—demand is growing for the highly specialized buildings where all that data is stored.
EdgeConnex representatives did not return calls. An EdgeConnex venture paid $22.8 million at the end of August for the warehouse, built in 2005, according to Cook County property records.
