Eastlink has announced the opening of its new network data center in Halifax, Nova Scotia, following an investment of C$20 million (US$15.7m) and three years of construction. The facility spans 13,000 sqft (1,200 sqm).

Speaking about the reason the company decided to build the new facility, Jeff Gillham, CEO Eastlink, said: "We built this facility not only to address growth in our national customer base and the current need for ever-increasing capacity but also in anticipation of future growth. We've always taken a proactive approach to investing to ensure our customers get the quality and stability of service they deserve and expect."

Steve Irvine, VP engineering and CTO at Eastlink, explained that over the course of the pandemic, internet usage has surged, and while the company's internet offering has been "strong," the company wanted to maintain this through investments which he said will "ensure the long-term reliability of our network." He added: "This significant infrastructure project reflects our ongoing commitment to further strengthen the resiliency of our core services."
