Plans for an entertainment district development in San Jose, California, have been scrapped and replaced with data center plans, it has been announced. Back in 2018, developer Terra Ventures had initially pitched for development known as 'Shops @ Terra'; this would have been an entertainment district offering restaurants, shops, two hotels, and a TopGolf complex. All but the latter have come to fruition.
The developers are now targetting a data center on the site, which was previously earmarked for SJL7; a four-story, 200-room hotel. It was also previously seeking planning permission for another hotel, Hotel Alviso.
The proposed facility is a two-story, 172,500 sq ft (16,025 sqm) data center, known as the Alviso data center, if approved, this will be accompanied by an adjacent power-generating facility.
