Datacenter United, based in Belgium, is acquiring local collocation provider Hasselt DC and constructing a new data center. This week, investment company and DCU proprietor TINC announced that the two Hasselt DC data centers in Limburg are now "part of the Datacenter United ecosystem." The terms of the agreement were not revealed. Datacenter United's managing director, Friso Haringsma, stated that with these initiatives, they are strengthening their position in the Belgian data center market. They can now provide their services from a minimum of nine locations. This guarantees their consumers an even stronger geographical presence and economies of scale. This establishes the foundation for the future digital economy.
Hasselt DC administers two facilities in the Belgian city of Hasselt. Hasselt DC1 is located at Veldstraat 101 and provides 380 racks across 10,225 square feet and 650kW; Hasselt DC2 is located at Trichterheideweg 2 and provides 80 racks across 2,150 square feet and 250kW. In addition, the companies announced the groundbreaking for a new data center in Kortrijk, West Flanders. The details of the new facility were not disclosed. Datacenter United was founded in 2011 and maintains facilities in Belgium in Antwerp (twice), Zaventem, Ghent, Bruges, Burcht, and Kortrijk-Sud. In 2020, TINC invested €12 million ($13.5 million) to acquire the company's majority stake.
