Colocation Data Center Proposed in Birmingham, Alabama

A new data center could be coming to Birmingham, Alabama. Officials in Fairfield, Alabama, have announced that a colocation data center development is being proposed in the city.

Details of the proposed project have not yet been disclosed, but Fairfield officials will hold a town hall later this month to provide more information. The city, located west of Birmingham, is part of a growing regional data center market that includes operators such as DC Blox, Nebius, US Data Centers, and QTS. Fairfield Mayor Herman Carnes Jr. noted that “not all data centers are the same” in a letter to residents.

“The project being considered for Fairfield is a colocation data center, not a hyperscale data center campus. That distinction matters,” he said. “That does not mean this proposal should receive less scrutiny. It means it should be evaluated based on its own facts, not assumptions from unrelated projects elsewhere.”fairfield_alabama.width-358.png
