Beacon Reveals Plans for Alabama Data Center Campus

Canadian data center developer Beacon has unveiled plans to build a new campus in Alabama. The company has outlined proposals for the Calvert Infrastructure Hub, which would be developed near the community of Calvert in Mobile County. Calvert is an unincorporated community in southwestern Alabama, around 35 miles north of Mobile.
According to the company, the campus will occupy 95 acres of a 650-acre site between Highway 43 and Shepard House Road. Plans include two data center buildings and an on-site substation, with the first facility targeted to become operational as early as next year.

“The project represents a major long-term investment in the region, bringing high-quality jobs, infrastructure development, and new economic opportunity to the Gulf Coast while strengthening Alabama's role in the future of advanced technology infrastructure,” Beacon said on its website.

The campus is designed to operate without backup diesel generators and will use a closed-loop cooling system to reduce water consumption. Beacon said it will fund any required local grid upgrades without the need for new transmission lines. Launched by investment firm Nadia Partners in 2023, Beacon says it has more than 6GW of data center capacity planned across six campuses in Canada and the US, including projects in Texas, California, and Alabama. The company is also partnering with California Resources Corporation to develop a behind-the-meter data center campus near Bakersfield, California.beacon_calvert.width-358.webp
