AtNorth's newest 12MW data center in Iceland is now running. The colocation company announced on June 12 that ICE03, its third facility in Iceland, has begun operations. The site's initial plans were released in April 2022. The data center is located in the northern Icelandic city of Akureyri. The initial construction segment encompasses approximately 26,900 square feet across two structures with an initial capacity of 12MW. The construction took eleven months to complete and cost over $21.6 million. The facility can scale up to 50MW and will have a total building area of over 43,000 square feet.
The nation's closed grid, powered entirely by renewable hydro and geothermal energy, is connected to ICE03. Together with the country's naturally mild climate, this permits the data center to preserve a PUE of 1.2 or less. The facility was designed to accommodate high-density duties, offering air cooling densities of up to 40kW as well as liquid cooling densities of up to 100kW.
AtNorth is a pan-Nordic provider of colocation and high-performance computing (HPC) data centers. The organization operates six data center facilities in Sweden, Iceland, and Finland, and another facility is being built in Finland. Customers of AtNorth include BNP Paribas and Proptivity.
