atNorth has announced that its third Iceland data center, ICE03, is now operational. The facility, located 250 km north of Reykjavík, offers an initial capacity of 12 MW, expandable to 50MW. Completed in just 11 months, the company now has a portfolio of six operational data centers, with an additional site, FIN02, in Finland under construction.

The data center cost 3 billion ISK ($21.6m) to construct and maintains a PUE of 1.2 or less, spanning 2,500 sqm (26,900 sq ft) across two buildings in its first phase.  At full build-out, ICE03 will span over 4,000 sqm (43,000 sq ft) across five buildings.

Finland has an energy supply run on a closed grid powered by 100% renewable hydro and geothermal energy sources; indeed its ICE03 facility runs on 100% renewable energy. Moreover, being located in one of the top ten markets for data center location, and more specifically, in the town of Akureyri, means that the facility is positioned in a thriving tech hub with greater accessibility.

"We are delighted to be expanding our presence in the Nordics once again with a third site in Iceland," commented Eyjólfur Magnús Kristinsson, CEO, atNorth. "With six operational sites across three Nordic countries and another in development, our commitment to meet increasing demand in the industry through continued expansion is evidenced. Furthermore, our dedication to sustainable best practice supports our goal to become the service provider of choice for eco-friendly high performance infrastructure."
