According to a news release from Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, Amazon intends to invest approximately $8 billion over six years in growing its data center business in central Ohio. Per a press release on Monday, the $7.8 billion initiative marks the second-largest private sector investment in Ohio's history, second only to the enormous Intel project currently under development in Licking County.

The new data centers will house computer servers, data storage devices, networking equipment, and other cloud computing-related technology infrastructure. According to the announcement, multiple locations in central Ohio are being considered for the new data center campuses, and the final location selections will be made later.

In 2016, Amazon debuted its first Midwest data centers and operates data center campuses in Franklin and Licking counties.
