Great news for Spain as plans for a 360MW data center campus in Madrid, Spain, is underway. The data center will be developed on a 700-hectare site, and investment is expected to reach up to €5 billion ($5.67bn). The Digital Valley project is to be a ‘reference model’ for sustainability in data centers. It will also feature initiatives like on-site power generation and storage, district heating, and reforestation schemes. Moreover, the economic feasibility plan is already in the works with a top international consulting firm. Development at the facility is scheduled to start in 15 months. The first data center could also come online by 2025.

Global Switch has announced that it wants to lead the project. A spokesperson for the project revealed that the company is happy with the Digital Valley project as its values align with theirs. Global Switch is committed to sustainability which is also a core part of the project, thereby making it attractive.
