NTT has announced the opening of its first facility in Spain. The data center is located in Las Rozas, outside Madrid. According to NTT, the data center sits on 134,720 square feet (12,516 square meters) of land in the Europolis Business and Technology Park. Currently, the facility offers 38,750 square feet (3,600 square meters) of IT space. It will also offer up to 6.3MW of capacity upon full build-out.
The CEO of NTT’s Global Data Centers division in EMEA, Florian Winkler, said there had been a massive increase in the demand for data center capacity in Spain. He added that with Madrid being the biggest data center hub in the country, NTT’s investment in the region is a fantastic achievement towards expanding across Europe.
NTT started work on the data center in November 2020. The company initially scheduled to bring the data center online in Q3 2021. NTT now operates 19 facilities across Europe with over 1.72 million square feet (160,000 square meters) of floor space. The company is also looking to expand its footprint in EMEA. It plans to add up to 115MW capacity to its portfolio by building 13 new data center buildings before 2023.
