Operational Power

Viking Data Centers owns and runs this data center in a 1919 tire plant on Seiberling Street in East Akron, once Goodyear's largest tire factory and later a Maxion Wheels plant. Viking bought the building in 2021 and converted it for crypto mining, and it now markets the space for AI computing as well. A new 138 kV to 13.8 kV substation on the site feeds the building, and Viking plans to add more power. Atlantic Energy supplies the site's electricity under a long-term agreement.

SOLAI Limited, formerly BIT Mining, is the anchor tenant. It joined in 2021 as a co-investor in the mining operation, and in 2022 it took sole ownership of its share of the site's power while Viking kept the rest for its own customers. Viking's headquarters is also in the building.

Site History

  • March 2026: Viking selected Atlantic Energy as the site's long-term electricity supplier.
  • 2023: FirstEnergy finished two new transmission switches that raised the power the site can draw from the grid.
  • June 2022: BIT Mining bought out Viking's stake in their joint mining operation, and the two companies split the site's planned power.
  • October 2021: Viking Real Estate Holdings bought the former Maxion Wheels plant.
  • September 2021: Viking and BIT Mining agreed to develop a crypto mining data center in the building.
