Data center company Vantage is planning to build a new campus in St. Athan, a village west of Cardiff, on a 10.9-hectare plot of land north of the Ffordd Bro Tathan business park.

The company, through its subsidiary VDC CWL21 Limited, has received approval from the Vale of Glamorgan Council to demolish existing structures and construct a data center along with its necessary infrastructure, including a substation.

Planning documents indicate the development will consist of three two-story buildings. Each building is designed to house eight 4MW data halls, with four halls on each floor. The entire facility will be supported by 22 generators.

The site has historical significance as part of the former RAF St Athan airfield, which was established in 1938. The Welsh Government acquired the land in 2006. Vantage has secured a 999-year lease for the property from the Welsh Government.
