Go to PodcastElk River city officials in Minnesota have rejected a proposal by Swervo Development Corp. and Irongate Data Centers to convert a 60,000-square-foot warehouse into a data center.
Following a negative recommendation from the local planning commission, the City Council voted down a key zoning amendment and indicated it will also deny the project's conditional use permit. In response to the proposal, the council has directed city staff to draft a one-year moratorium on all new data center developments in the municipality.
Sitting on 3.2 acres, the targeted warehouse was built around 1978 and previously housed plastic manufacturer Avid International Moulding Solutions.
