SOLAI Limited's Akron operation sits inside Viking Data Centers' campus in a 1919 former Goodyear tire plant on Seiberling Street in East Akron. The building later housed a Maxion Wheels factory before Viking bought it in 2021 and converted it into a crypto mining data center. SOLAI, then named BIT Mining, joined that year as Viking's anchor tenant and co-investor. In 2022 it took full ownership of the mining operation, while Viking kept a share of the site's planned power for its own customers.

SOLAI uses its space mainly to host other companies' mining machines, and says the space can hold up to 30,000 machines. The company also lists the building as its headquarters. Viking still owns the building and markets the rest of the campus for crypto mining and AI computing.

Site History

  • October 2021: BIT Mining raised its stake in the operation to 55% and expanded the planned buildout.
  • October 2021: Viking Real Estate Holdings bought the former Maxion Wheels plant.
