QTS Data Centers, a Blackstone company, is developing a data center campus on the former Van Wert Mega Site, north of U.S. Route 30 on the east side of Van Wert. Thor Equities assembled the land from the Marsh Foundation, and QTS bought it in June 2026. The plan calls for seven buildings over five to six years. The first phase covers four buildings of about 650,000 square feet each, with the first building due to open in early 2029 and the full campus around 2032. Suffolk is the general contractor, and the construction workforce is expected to peak at about 5,500 a day after March 2028.
AEP Ohio will serve the campus from Norse, a new 345 kV substation off Stripe Road linked to the Maddox Creek station by about 2.5 miles of new line, planned for late 2028. QTS has asked AEP for more power beyond its first commitment, and AEP is studying the request. QTS will also pay about $25 million for road work at Bonnewitz Crossing and a Mendon Road overpass.
