Meta is developing a 715,000 sq ft (66,425 sqm) data center campus in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The company plans to invest over $800 million in the 960-acre project, which it says will be optimized for AI workloads. The campus will include at least two buildings and on-site substations. Notably, these buildings will not follow Meta's traditional H design used in previous projects.
- Construction on the first building started in early 2024 and the facility is scheduled to open by 2027.
- Wyoming offers tax breaks for data center operators, which is said to have been a deciding factor in Meta pursuing the Cheyenne project.
- A data center development on the site, dubbed ‘Project Cosmo’, was approved by Cheyenne City Council in November 2023. At the time, Meta was using the shell company Goat Systems LLC to conduct business. The social media firm was named as the company behind the project in May 2024.
