Gnomon Capital has acquired 100% of Croatian data center DC North, known as the “Fort Knox” facility, in a deal involving former owners Cratis and Muraplast. Court records show the transfer was completed in late May, with Gnomon now listed as the sole shareholder.
DC North was launched by Cratis in Varaždin, Croatia, in November 2023 and was presented as the country’s largest carrier-neutral data center. The 4MW facility offers 21,500 sq ft (2,000 sqm) of IT space across six rooms and 104 racks each. Cratis said the site is built for high-security operations, including resistance to major earthquakes, and is located at a key regional fiber crossroads linking Slovenia, Hungary, and Austria. It is also the only certified data center in Croatia located outside Zagreb.
“In today's world, we cannot live without this type of service,” Milanović said at the opening ceremony on 24 November 2023. “This is a matter of national security, control of processes, finances, personal property, and bank accounts, without which we cannot function normally.”
Croatia is emerging as a regional digital infrastructure hub, supported by strong grid capacity and its location between Western Europe and the Balkans, with 17 data centers currently operating. Recent developments include Pantheon Atlas’ planned €12 billion hyperscale AI campus in Topusko, while Gnomon Capital is a Liechtenstein-based private equity firm focused on tech and fintech investments.
