Google Launches $15bn Data Center Build in India
April 28, 2026
Google has filed plans for "Project Raspberry" a data center development located on 343.6 acres within the Greenfield Industrial Campus in Botetourt County, Virginia. The proposed site layout includes three 300,000-square-foot data center buildings, three electrical substations, and a 28,000-square-foot office facility. Following a $14 million land acquisition in June 2025, the project involves the construction of supporting infrastructure such as access roads, utilities, and stormwater management systems.
The US Army Corps of Engineers is currently reviewing the proposal and soliciting feedback from public and federal stakeholders. While Google previously announced a $9 billion investment in its Virginia infrastructure—specifically targeting Chesterfield, Loudoun, and Prince William Counties—this development marks the first data center project for Botetourt County. The campus design mirrors "Project Peanut," a similar three-building development currently being established by the company in Richmond.
