NDSU and RII Launch Study Exploring the Reuse of Data Center Waste Heat for Greenhouses in North Dakota

North Dakota
Williams County Commissioners granted a conditional use permit for a new data center to be built by Enerfore Digital approximately eight miles south of Tioga, North Dakota, following a 4-to-1 vote on February 5, 2025.
This decision, which followed recommendations from local planning bodies, clears the way for a facility that company representatives promise will utilize a distinct cooling method to achieve lower noise levels compared to the existing Atlas Power Data Center. Despite one dissenting vote prompted by concerns over explicit landowner consent for the site, officials are moving forward with the goal of having the facility fully operational by the end of 2025.
The facility will occupy 20,000 square feet (2,000 square meters) on a 10-acre site, dedicated to cryptomining operations.
