Microsoft is planning a major expansion of its data center presence in Wisconsin, committing an additional $4 billion over the next three years, starting in late 2025. This investment will fund a second data center in the state, designed to be of similar size and scale to the existing Fairwater facility.
To support its growing footprint, Microsoft completed the purchase of an additional 1,000 acres for its Mount Pleasant data center campus in Racine County. The complex land acquisition totaled over $175 million across three primary deals:
- $76 million for 407 acres from Creuziger Farms Inc. on Braun Road and Durand Avenue,
- $63.2 million for 400 acres from the Village of Mount Pleasant on Braun Road and Durand Avenue,
- $36.5 million for 241 acres along County Highway H.
A significant portion of the land Microsoft acquired was previously owned by Foxconn, which purchased the parcel in 2017 with the intention of developing a manufacturing facility projected to create 10,000 jobs in the area. Ultimately, Foxconn only delivered 1,454 jobs to the region before the land was transferred for the data center project.
