Digital Realty has broken ground on its first data center in Rome, Italy. Work on the ROM1 facility has begun and is scheduled for completion in 2027.

The data center is the first of its kind for the company in Italy. The 22-hectare campus could total 2.3 million sq ft (213,676 sqm) at full build-out, making it one of the largest data center projects in the country.

Digital first announced plans for the facility in September 2023. Construction was originally expected to begin in Q4 2023.
