Crusoe Plans Modular Data Center Deployment at Energy Vault’s Snyder, Texas Technology Center

The Armstrong County AI Data Center project, spearheaded by Crusoe Energy, has been redesigned from its original plan. The original 3.5 million-square-foot, seven-building complex will now consist of six buildings. Furthermore, site work is already underway on four pads. This revised plan specifies two smaller "Abilene-type" hyperscale structures, each measuring 484,954 square feet. The scope is rounded out by four substantially larger, rectangular "warehouse-style" buildings, each 805,380 square feet, designed to support roughly double the capacity of the smaller modules.
The new deal keeps the county’s total 10-year abatement value intact but shifts payments to $1.35 million per year for each building as soon as it becomes operational, with the first check possible by June or July 2026.
Crusoe spokesman Tyler Hunt told the court that construction on the four buildings should be finished within two years and that the company is in active negotiations with a prospective tenant, aiming to lease the entire campus to a single user.
The site will rely on the ERCOT grid, supplemented by the 265.5 MW Goodnight Wind Farm (already operating in Armstrong County) through a renewable-energy purchase agreement.

Crusoe is a privately held AI infrastructure developer and GPU cloud provider that builds AI data center campuses and offers GPU cloud services in the United States. The company began as Crusoe Energy Systems, a flare mitigation provider that powered onsite computing from stranded natural gas, with bitcoin mining as an early use case.
Crusoe is developing an AI campus at the Lancium Clean Campus in Abilene, Texas, planned for 1.2 GW, and in May 2025 it secured $11.6 billion in debt and equity to expand the site from two to eight buildings.
For this project, it is reported that Crusoe’s direct customer is Oracle and that OpenAI is Oracle’s customer; the Abilene campus is tied to OpenAI’s Stargate program;
OpenAI later announced an additional 4.5 GW Stargate partnership with Oracle that references the Abilene Stargate I site. Crusoe also expanded in-house manufacturing capability through the acquisition of Easter-Owens Electric in 2022.
