Amazon Web Services (AWS) had planned a third data center campus in Louisa County, Virginia, a project that was ultimately withdrawn following community opposition. The proposal outlined a massive development on 1,370 acres of land, with the potential to build up to 7.2 million square feet of data center space.

This land, which was zoned for agriculture, was owned by a local family, including Louisa District Supervisor Eric Purcell. The project was set to be constructed in at least four phases and represented a significant financial commitment. According to the Conditional Use Permit (CUP) application, the full build-out of 7.2 million square feet could have amounted to an investment of up to an estimated $28.8 billion. Furthermore, the company projected substantial tax revenue for the county, with each 250,000 square feet of developed space expected to generate between $4 million and $5 million annually. Despite the potential economic benefits, the plan was ultimately scrapped due to strong pushback from residents concerned about the project's impact on their community.
