Meta's Odense campus sits in the Tietgenbyen business park in Odense SØ, on Funen, about 7 km east-southeast of central Odense. Cassin Networks ApS, a Meta subsidiary, holds the land and runs the campus. The main gate is on M.P. Allerups Vej.
Land. The original plot covers about 50 ha. In 2021 Odense Kommune adopted Lokalplan 4-1022 so Meta could add about 39 ha of adjoining land for two more data halls. Meta ended that project in December 2022.
Power. Energinet built a 150 kV switching station on the campus. It links to Energinet's Fraugde station and takes supply from both the eastern and western Danish grids. Meta owns the adjoining 150/20 kV transformer station, which has three transformers. Forty Caterpillar 3.2 MW diesel generators provide backup power.
Heat recovery. Meta designed the campus around heat recovery. Fjernvarme Fyn owns an ammonia heat-pump plant about 600 m away that lifts server heat to district-heating temperature. Meta supplies the heat free of charge: 165,000 MWh a year, enough for about 9,000 homes. Ramboll engineered the plant.
Renewables. Meta matches the campus load with wind power from two Norwegian wind farms (294 MW, Bjerkreim cluster) and 211 MW from three new solar projects in Denmark.
Milestones. Facebook confirmed the project in January 2017 and broke ground that year. The first buildings earned LEED Gold in 2020. In October 2020 Meta started a third building of nearly 30,000 m². In August 2022 Meta signed a DKK 2.4 billion civil-works contract with Per Aarsleff for two more buildings. It terminated the contract in December 2022, saying AI workloads need a different data center design. Earthworks, foundations, cable trenches and a 1,000-car car park were already in place. Meta puts its Odense investment at more than DKK 10 billion. The campus won the 2021 Green Data Centre of the Year award.
